General Description
Chromium(IV) oxide, also known as chromium dioxide, is a chemical compound with the formula CrO2. It is a black, synthetic magnetic compound that is commonly used to create magnetic storage media, such as audio and video tapes. Chromium(IV) oxide is a highly stable and corrosion-resistant material, making it suitable for various industrial applications. It has also been studied for its potential as a catalyst in various chemical reactions. However, it is important to handle chromium(IV) oxide with care, as it is considered toxic and can pose health and environmental risks if not properly managed.
Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 12018-01-8 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 1,2,0,1 and 8 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 0 and 1 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 12018-01:
(7*1)+(6*2)+(5*0)+(4*1)+(3*8)+(2*0)+(1*1)=48
48 % 10 = 8
So 12018-01-8 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

Formation of Molecular Chromium(IV) Oxide (CrO2) by Photolysis of Cr(CO)6 in O2-doped Argon Matrices
Almond, Matthew J.,Hahne, Michael
, p. 2255 - 2260 (2007/10/02)
The binary chromium oxide, CrO2, is produced upon prolonged broad-band u.v. -visible irradiation of Cr(CO)6 isolated in O2-doped argon matrices at ca. 12 K.Infrared spectroscopic studies involving isotopic substitution with 18O show that CrO2 is a non-linear dioxo molecule with an upper limit for the O-Cr-O bond angle of 117+/-3 degree.Measurements of the intensities of the infrared absorptions arising from the symmetric and antisymmetric CrO2 stretches of this molecule give a value for O-Cr-O of 112+/-2 degree, confirming the non-linear structure.
