12020-14-3 Usage
Uses
Used in Refractory Applications:
Zirconium carbide is used as a refractory material for its high melting point and hardness, making it suitable for applications such as incandescent filaments, high-temperature electrical conductors, and cutting tool components.
Used in Nuclear Industry:
Zirconium carbide is used as a hot-pressed crucible to melt metals like bismuth, cadmium, lead, tin, and high melting point oxides such as ZrO2 in UC-fueled reactors.
Used in Metallurgy:
Zirconium carbide is employed in the metallurgy industry for melting metals due to its high melting point and resistance to oxidation.
Used in Thin Film Deposition:
Zirconium carbide is used as a 99.5% pure sputtering target to produce wear-resistant and other films, taking advantage of its hardness and chemical properties.
Physical and Chemical Properties:
Zirconium carbide is a gray metallic solid with a density of 6.73 g/cm3 and a melting point of 3,532°C. It is very hard, with a hardness greater than 8.0 Mohs. zirconium carbide is insoluble in water, slightly soluble in concentrated sulfuric acid, and soluble in hydrofluoric acid and oxidizing acids such as nitric and perchloric acids. It can be attacked by oxidizers.
Preparation
Zirconium carbide is prepared by heating a mixture of zirconium oxide and coke in an arc furnace.
Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 12020-14-3 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 1,2,0,2 and 0 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 1 and 4 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 12020-14:
(7*1)+(6*2)+(5*0)+(4*2)+(3*0)+(2*1)+(1*4)=33
33 % 10 = 3
So 12020-14-3 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
