Trithorium tetranitride, with the chemical formula Th3N4, is a compound composed of thorium (Th) and nitrogen (N). It is a refractory material, known for its high melting point and thermal stability. trithorium tetranitride is typically synthesized under high-temperature and high-pressure conditions, and it exhibits a cubic crystal structure. Trithorium tetranitride is of interest in the field of nuclear engineering due to its potential use as a fuel in advanced nuclear reactors, as thorium is a fertile material that can be converted into fissile uranium-233 through neutron capture. Additionally, it has been studied for its possible applications in materials science, given its unique properties. However, it is important to note that the handling and use of thorium compounds require strict safety measures due to the radioactivity of thorium and its potential environmental and health impacts.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 12033-90-8 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 1,2,0,3 and 3 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 9 and 0 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 12033-90:
(7*1)+(6*2)+(5*0)+(4*3)+(3*3)+(2*9)+(1*0)=58
58 % 10 = 8
So 12033-90-8 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

PREPARATION OF THORIUM NITRIDES AND THEIR OXIDATION BEHAVIOUR.

Uno,Katsura,Miyake

, p. 615 - 619 (1985)

This paper summarizes the results obtained during a course of study of the preparation of thorium nitrides, Th//3N//4 and ThN. Well-crystallized Th//3N//4 free from oxide has been prepared by the reaction of powdered Th//4H//1//5 with flowing N//2 at 800 degree C. Thermal decomposition of Th//3N//4 under various conditions has been studied to prepare ThN containing no ThO//2. As part of the study of the oxidation of thorium nitrides, the air-oxidation of Th//3N//4 has been performed around room temperature for different periods extending to one week. From broad diffuse peaks in the X-ray diffraction patterns for the completely oxidized products, it follows that either amorphous ThO//2 or ThO// 2 of small crystallite size forms. A preliminary experiment indicated that ThN was easily soluble in HNO//3 at room temperature.

The Formation of Solid Solutions Between ThN and LaN, CeN, PrN, SmN, GdN and ErN

Ettmayer, Peter,Waldhart, Johann,Vendl, Alfred,Banik, Gerhard

, p. 945 - 948 (2007/10/02)

X-Ray studies of the mixed nitride phases indicate complete solid solubility in all case. - Keywords: Nitrides; Rare earth nitrides; Thorium nitride
