Synthesis of pharmaceutically important 1,3,4-thiadiazolc and imidazolinonc derivatives as antimicrobial

Thioscmicarbazide of 6-chloro-2-aminobenzothiozole on cyclization with different aromatic carboxylic acids in POCl3 and substituted azlactones in pyridine provide the corresponding 2-aryl-5-(6'-chloro-l',3'- benzolhiazole-2-yl-amino)-l,3,4thiadiazoles 2a-j and 4-(4'-arylidcne) -2-phenyl-l-(6,-chloro-r,3'-benzothiazol-2-yl-thiourido)-4,5-dihydroimidazolin- 5oncs 3a-c. The compounds have been characterized by elemental analysis, IR, 1H NMR and mass spectral data. All the compounds have been evaluated in vitro for their antimicrobial activities against several microbes and show significant activity.
