Treatment of 1,2-dichlorotetramesityldisilane (1) with lithium tert-butylamide gives the 4b,9b-disilaindenoindene derivative 3 whose NMR spectra in solution show a hindered rotation about the Si-C(mesityl) bonds even at high temperatures.The X-ray structure analysis of 3 reveals a strong folding of the two halves of the bicyclic molecule and a considerably short Si-Si bond length of 230.7 pm. - Keywords: Indenoindene derivative, 4b,9b-disila- / Rotation hindrance
