Reaction of tricarbonyl[(1?5-?)-pentadienyl]manganese with benzeneselenol in the presence of bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane afforded a mononuclear (carbonyl)(phosphine)manganese compound with the benzeneselenolato coordinated in a terminal fashion. A dinuclear compound with two bridging selenolato ligands and a bridging carbonyl was obtained when the organometallic precursor was made to react with benzeneselenol in the presence of triphenylphosphine. Direct reaction of tricarbonyl[(1?5-?)-pentadienyl]manganese with benzeneselenol gave the heterocubane [Mn(μ3-SePh)(CO)3]4.
