The reaction of C6H2(CF3)3Li and (Me3Si)2O2 results in the formation of C6H2(CF3)3OSiMe3 (5), which is converted by hydrogen chloride to the phenol C6H2(CF3)3OH (4). 4 reacts with TlOC2H5 to give the title compound [C6H2(CF3)3OTl]2 (6). Mass spectroscopic and X-ray structural analyses confirm the dimeric structure with Tl(I) of coordination number 2. [C6H2(CF3)3OTl]2 crystallizes in the space group P21/c with a = 1257.5 (7) pm, b = 946.1 (7) pm, c = 1060.9 (5) pm, and β = 101.41 (4)°.
