The bromination of (-)-2-arylidene-p-menthan-3-ones with N-bromosuccinimide in carbon tetrachloride in the presence of an initiator of free radical formation (dicyclohexyl peroxydicarbonate) gave the corresponding (-)-2-arylidene-4-bromo-p-menthan-3-ones.The latter are dehydrobrominated by boiling in pyridine and form (-)-2-arylidene-4-p-menthen-3-ones.
