Mechanism of action
Roflumilast works by inhibiting the enzyme PDE4, which is involved in the inflammation and constriction of the airways in the lungs. By inhibiting PDE4, 1-Piperidinecarboxylic acid, 3-fluoro-4-hydroxy-, phenylmethyl ester helps to reduce inflammation and improve lung function in patients with COPD.
Indications
It is typically prescribed as a maintenance treatment for severe COPD associated with chronic bronchitis and a history of exacerbations.
