REACTIVITY OF TETRAPHENYLCYCLOPENTADIENE AND TETRACYCLONE IN THE DIELS-ALDER REACTION WITH CYANOETHYLENES

The reactivity of 2,3,4,5-tetraphenyl-2,4-cyclopentadiene and tetracyclone in the Diels-Alder reaction with cyanoethylenes was investigated.The thermodynamic parameters of some of the investigated reactions were determined.It was shown that the dependence of the reactivity of the dienophile on the localization energy increases with increase in the accepting character of the diene.The observed effect is consistent with the idea that the effects of interaction between the symmetrical frontier orbitals of the addends in the Diels-Alder reaction can lead to a displacement of the transition state along the reaction coordinate toward the side of the adduct.
