Synthesis and Characterization of Thorium(IV) and Dioxouranium(VI) Complexes of 4-antipyrine

Complexes of 4-antipyridine (BAApy) with thorium(IV) and dioxouranium(VI), having the general formulae ThX4*nBAApy (X = Cl, Br, NO3 or NCS; n = 2; X = I or ClO4; n = 3) and UO2X2*nBAApy (X = Cl, Br, NO3 or NCS; n = 1; X = I or ClO4; n = 2), have been synthesized and characterized by analytical molecular weight, conductance, magnetic moment, IR and TG data.The IR spectra of the complexes suggest that the ligands acts as O,O-chelating agent.The probable coordination number of Th(IV) is 6, 8 or 12 and that of U(VI) is 6 or 8 in the present complexes.
