The Preparation and Reaction of Fluorinated Phenyl Mono- or Bis- Cadmium and Copper Reagents

, p. 251 - 255 (2007/10/02)
Tetrafluorodibromobenzenes react readily with acid-washed cadmium in DMF at temperatures ranging from 25 deg C to 60 deg C to give bromotetrafluorophenylcadmium reagents in excellent yields.Treatment of the mono- cadmium reagent solution with excess cadmium at 100 deg C affords the tetrafluorophenylbiscadmium reagents. The mono- and bis- copper reagents are obtained via metathesis of the corresponding cadmium reagents with cuprous bromide at room temperature.Allylation and acylation of the biscopper reagents give the corresponding allylated and acylated tetrafluoro-benzenes, respectively.
THE ATTEMPTED SYNTHESIS OF POLYPARATETRAFLUOROPHENYLENE VINYLENE VIA WATERSOLUBLE AND ORGANIC SOLVENT-SOLUBLE PRECURSOR POLYMERS
Brooke, Gerald M.,Mawson, Simon D.
, p. 101 - 109 (2007/10/02)
2,3,5,6-Tetrafluoro-1,4-xylene-αα'-bis(dimethylsulphonium bromide) (5)and the related -αα'-bis(diethylsulphonium chloride) (6) were prepared by the reaction of αα'-dibromo-2,3,5,6-tetrafluoro-1,4-xylene (7) with dimethyl sulphide and of αα'-dichloro-2,3,5
