A branched compound having a construction with a core portion, at least 3 side chain portions bonded to the core portion, and end portions bonded to each of the side chain portions, wherein the side chain portions are groups in which a plurality of conjugated units are linked, at least one of the conjugated units being a divalent heterocyclic group, at least one of the end portions is a group represented by formula (1), and the side chain portions and the end portions are conjugated with the core portion.
