Reaction of the complex 3-CC6H4Me-4)(CO)15> with PMe2Ph gives a mixture of the mono- and bis-phosphine complexes 3-CC6H4Me-4)(CO)15-x(PMe2Ph)x> (x=1 or 2), whilst that the bidentate phosphine Ph2PCH2PPh2 (dppm) affords 3-CC6H4Me-4)(CO)13(Ph2PCH2PPh2)>.In contrast, reaction with two equivalents of the secondary phosphine PPh2H gives the phosphido-bridged derivative 3-CC6H4Me-4)(μ-PPh2)(CO)8(PPh2H)>.Formation of the latter WCo2 complex involves formal loss of and a mechanism for this process is discussed.Treatment of the related ReCo2 compound 3-CC6H4Me-4)(CO)10> with dppm affords the mono- and bis-dppm derivatives 3-CC6H4Me-4)(CO)8(Ph2PCH2PPh2)> and 3-CC6H4Me-4)(CO)x(Ph2PCH2PPh2)2> (x=6 or 7) respectively. As previously reported, treatment of with gives 3-CC6H4Me-4)(CO)15>, which thermally rearranges to 3-CC6H4Me-4)(CO)10>.The new complexes and 3-CC6H4Me-4)(CO)13> have been identified as by-products in the latter reactions.Spectroscopic data for the new compounds are reported and discussed in the context of the structures proposed.
