Efficient synthesis of fluorinated 1,8-naphthyridinyl phthalazine-1,4 diones in the solid state

A convenient synthesis of fluorinated 2-(3-aryl-1,8-naphthyridin-2-yl)-1,2, 3,4-tetrahydrophthalazine-1,4-diones 3 has been achieved by grinding 3-aryl-2-hydrazino1,8-naphthyridines 1 with phthalic anhydride 2 in the presence of a catalytic amount of PTSA in a mortar with pestle at room temp. The products are obtained in very good yields and in a state of high purity.
