The reaction between 3,4-dimethyl-1-phenylphosphole and diphenylketene at 10 kbar, 25 deg C, leads to the formation not of a 1:1 cycloadduct but to a novel spirodioxaphosphorane formed from four molecules of diphenylketene and one of phosphole which loses in the process all its ring carbons.The structure is established by X-ray crystallography.
