1.R-Chromone-3-aldehydes react with acetaldehyde in dimethylformamide in the presence of piperidine acetate, and when the reaction mixture is treated with hydrochloric acid, one obtains β-(R-3-chromonyl)acroleins. 2.These compounds are E isomers, with the conformation equilibrium substantially displaced toward the conformer having the s-trans position for the C=C bond in the heterocyclic and the C=C and C=O bonds in the propenal moiety.
