2,4-Dimethoxy-5-C-prenylacetophenone (1) has been condensed with methyl 3,4-methylenedioxybenzoate (2a), methyl benzoate (2b), methyl p-methylbenzoate (2c) and methyl 3,4-dimethoxybenzoate (2d) in the presence of Na-powder and xylene to give pongagallone-B, pongagallone-A and two other diketones (3a-d), respectively.
