Kinetic study of the condensation of salicylaldehyde with diethyl malonate in a catalyzed nonpolar solvent by secondary amines

The kinetics of condensation between salicylaldehyde and diethylmalonate in a toluene solution in the presence of secondary amines (i.e., piperidine and 4-piperidinopiperidine) as catalysts was investigated. It was found that the reaction proceeds via the Knoevenagel mechanism, and the kinetic model was numerically verified. copy;2009 Wiley Periodicals.
