Methods based on the enol ethers of 2-butyryl-5,5-dimethyl-1,3-cyclohexanedione and 2-butyryl-5,5-dimethyl-4-methoxycarbonyl-1,3-cyclohexanedione were developed for the introduction of the 4-hydroxy function into cyclohexane β-triketones with lead tetraacetate, m-chloroperbenzoic acid, and tert-butyl hypochlorite as reagents.
