Reactions of the Re+ and Re2+ ions and the ReOx+ (x = 1-3) oxygen-containing ions with methane, propane, propylene, and cyclopropane were studied by ion cyclotron resonance. The formation of several organometallic ions, Re(C3H6)+, Re(C3H4)+, Re2(C3H6)+, and Re2(C3H4)+, including rhenium metallocarbene ReCH2+ and oxometallocarbenes ReOx-1 CH2 (x = 2, 3), was observed. The upper and lower bounds for bond energies in these complexes were determined, namely, 111 > D°(Re+-CH2) > 88.4, D°(Re+-C3H6) > 69, D°(Re2+-C3H6) > 69, D°(Re+-C3H4) > 70.5, D°(Re2+-C3H4) > 70.5, D°(ReO+-CH2) > 110, and D°(ReO2+-CH2) > 118 kcal/mol.
