Disclosed herein are novel 1-aryl-1-(1H--imidazol-1-ylmethyl)-1,3-dihydrobenzofurans of the general formula I: wherein R represents a halo- and/or trifluoromethyl--substituted phenyl group, the compounds exhibiting useful in vivoantifungal activity. Also disclosed are processes for the preparation of the disclosed compounds as well as pharmaceutical compositions containing them.
