Synthesis and characterization of some organolead(IV) complexes with bidentate ligands

Organolead(IV) complexes have been synthesized by the reactions of diorganolead dichloride with one and two equivalents fo thiosemicarbazones of some heterocyclic aldehydes in the presence of one and two equivalents of lithium, respectively.The resulting complexes of the types R2Pb(L)Cl and R2PbL2 (where R = C6H5; HL = R'CH:NNHC:S.NH2, R' = C5H4N-, C4H3S-, C4H3O-, C6H5CHCH-) have been characterized by elemental analyses, molecular weight determination, IR, NMR (1H and 13C) and X-ray diffraction studies.Trigonal bipyramidal and octahedral geometries have been proposed for R2Pb(L)Cl and R2PbL2 types of complexes, respectively.
