In an acidic medium the bisthiosemicarbazones of isatin undergo recyclization.They open the five-membered ring with the addition of water and form the thiosemicarbazone-thiosemicarbazides of N-acylisatinic acids.The latter close the 1,3,4-thiadiazole ring even under the conditions of preparation and are converted into the thiosemicarbazones of 2-aminophenyl 5-amino-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl ketones, which change their geometric configuration in solutions when kept or heated with the formation of isomers stabilized by an intramolecular hydrogen bond.
