NOVEL SYNTHESIS OF PYRIDIN-2(1H)-THIONES AND THIENO-PYRIDINES: REACTION OF ETHOXYMETHYLENES WITH ACTIVATED NITRILES

Ethoxymethylenes of benzoylacetonitrile, acetylacetone, benzoylacetone and ethyl acetoacetate reacts with cyanothioacetamide to give the corresponding 3-cyano-2(1H)-pyridinthione derivatives, which can be alkylated and cyclised into the corresponding thienopyridine derivatives.Key words: Activated nitriles, α-cyanothioacetamide, pyridine-2-(1H)-thiones, thienopyridines.
