General Description

Silicomanganese is a type of ferroalloy that is produced through smelting manganese ore, coke, and silica together, where the resulting product is principally utilized by the steel industry. Composed primarily of silicon, manganese, and iron, it also contains small amounts of carbon, phosphorous, and other elements. It is extensively desirable in steel production due to its attributes like deoxidization and desulfurization. Additionally, its high manganese content makes it an excellent alloying agent for improving the properties of the steel, while its high silicon content aids in producing more resistant and hard-wearing steel. It is often used in manufacturing high manganese steel, and specialty steel types including stainless steel.
