General Description
Enramycin is a polypeptide antibiotic produced by fermentation of Actinomadura roseorufa, used primarily in veterinary medicine as a feed additive for poultry and swine. It is effective against gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria, including those resistant to other antibiotics. Enramycin works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell death. It is most commonly used to control and prevent necrotic enteritis in poultry, a disease caused by Clostridium perfringens.
