The triflic acid-mediated endocyclic N-acyliminium ion cyclisation provides a facile synthesis of (di)-benzazocinones. On reduction of the 10-phenyl derivative, an unusually non-polar tertiary alkylamine was obtained. The Royal Society of Chemistry 2011.
