The silyl group of the trimethylsilyldiphenylphosphane complex I(CO)4Mn can be substituted easily on reaction with the acetyl- or sulfinyl derivatives (CF3CO)2O or RS(O)Cl (R = CH3, C10H15 = Adamantyl), respectively, in toluene to form the new acetyl- and sulfinyl-phosphane complexes I(CO)4Mn (E = C: R = CF3; E = S: R = CH3, C10H15).The complex stabilization of these molecules, which are unstable (E = E) or hitherto unknown (E =S) in the free state, is only accomplished by blocking the free electron pair on phosphorus by coordination.
