During the oxidation of an equimolar mixture of ethyl 4-chloro- and 4-methoxy-3-hydroxyanthranilates only one "unsymmetrical" derivative of cinnabaric acid (diethyl 4-methoxy-6-chlorocinnabarate) is formed.The "symmetrical" derivatives, which result from the oxidative condensation of two molecules of the same aminophenol, are formed in insignificant amounts.
