The complexation of iron(III) chloride with 1,4,7-tris[3,4-bis(decyloxy)-benzyl]-1,4,7-triazacyclononane leads to a liquid crystalline product, which forms a second mesophase after thermal treatment at around 70°C above the first clearing temperature. Pol
Liquid Crystalline Azamacrocyclic Derivatives
Lattermann, G.
, p. 299 - 311 (2007/10/02)
In this paper three examples of new liquid crystalline compounds with azamacrocyclic cores are described.Apart from a substituted hexacyclene with twelve alkoxy sidechains, two triazacrownether derivatives are presented.Their discotic molecular shape causes mesomorphic behaviour, which is characterized by means of DSC-measurements and polarizing microscopy.Water absorption from air can slightly modify the transition temperatures. The triazamacrocyclic derivatives exhibit a strongly hindered recrystallization; their glass transition temperatures are above room temperature.
