Abstract: 4-(4-Aminophenyl)-2,6-diphenylpyrimidine was synthesized by reaction of (E)-1-(4-aminophenyl)-3-phenylprop-2-en-1-one with benzamidine and was involved in a number of transformations at the amino group, which afforded N-(2,4-dinitrophenyl) and N-acyl derivatives, N-[4-(2,6-diphenylpyrimidin-4-yl)phenyl]-6-methyl-2-(methylsulfanyl)pyrimidin-4-amine, and substituted quinazolines containing a 2,4,6-triphenylpyrimidine fragment on N3. The reaction of 2-methylquinazolines with aromatic aldehydes gave substituted (E)-3-[(4-(2,6-diphenylpyrimidin-4-yl)phenyl]-2-styrylquinazolin-4(3H)-ones.
