A new method for deprotecting tetrahydropyranyl ethers has been established by using a bentonitic earth.The reaction proceeds selectively under mild conditions in good yields.The heterogenous reaction enables easy separation of the parent hydroxyl functionality by simple filtration.The synthesis of farnesylhydroquinone as a synthetic application of the method is also reported.
