General Description

Beryllium oxide, often known as beryllia, is a chemical compound with the formula BeO. This white solid chemically insoluble and thermally stable material is extensively used in the electronics industry due to its high thermal conductivity and electrical resistivity. It crystallizes in a hexagonal wurtzite structure and has a band gap of 10.6 eV at room temperature. Despite its beneficial properties, beryllium oxide is a health hazard and its dust can be inhaled, posing serious health risks. Both Beryllium and its compounds are classified as carcinogenic by health authorities.
