Study of the behavior of 2- and 5-methyl-3-cyclohexenecarboxylic acids in hydrochlorination showed that the addition of HCl leads to the formation of stereoisomeric 4-chloro-substituted cyclohexanecarboxylic acids and γ-lactones.
