The reaction of the phosphinous acid trimethyl esters, R2POSiMe3, 1 (R=Me), and 2 (R=Ph) with azides, RN3 (R=Me3Si: 3 and R=Ph: 10), and diphenylketene was found to occur with 1,3-trimethylsilyl migration and formation of the corresponding silylated compounds, 4, 9, 11, 12 and 14.According to NMR studies (1H, 31P) 4 is present as a phosphine imide while the identity of 11a and 12a as phosphoryl compounds was established. The reaction of Ph2POSiMe3, 2 with the isocyanates, RNCO (R=Me: 5 and R=Ph: 6) did not produce the insertion products, Ph2P(:O)-C(:NR)(OSiMe3), 7a and 7b (R=Me, Ph).In the case of the reaction of 2 with MeNCO 5, trimerization of the latter with formation of the well-known triazine, 8 was observed.
