General Description
(S)-2-chloro-5-Methyl-6a,7,8,9-tetrahydropyrrolo[2,1-h]pteridin-6(5H)-one, also known as leucovorin or citrovorum factor, is a chemical compound that is commonly used as a medication to decrease the toxic effects of methotrexate and certain other chemotherapy drugs. It is a derivative of folic acid and works by providing a source of reduced folate, which helps to prevent the toxic effects of these chemotherapy drugs on healthy tissues. Leucovorin is also used to treat megaloblastic anemia and is being investigated for its potential use in the treatment of alcohol addiction and cognitive impairment. Additionally, it has been found to be effective in the treatment of some types of bacterial and parasitic infections.
