Versatile synthesis of 2-aryltriazolothiazolopyridines

The reaction of 2-aminothiazolopyridines (1) with benzonitrile in the presence of anhyd AlCl3 give N-(thiazolopyridin-2-yl)arylamidines (2) which on cyclodehydrogenation with lead tetraacetate in dry benzene afford 2-aryltriazolothiazolopyridines (4).

Formation and Pyrolysis of 1-(2'-Thiazolopyridyl)-5-aryltetrazoles

1-(2'-Thiazolopyridyl)-5-aryltetrazoles (4) have been obtained by the reaction of 2-aroylaminothiazolopyridines (2) with phosphorus pentachloride and azidolysis of the resulting imidoyl chlorides.The products of pyrolysis of 1-(2'-thiazolopyridyl)-5-aryltetrazoles in decalin have been characterised as 2-aryl-1,2,4-triazolothiazolopyridines (6).
