Synthesis of some new condensed thiophenes and their antimicrobial activity

New condensed thiophene derivatives such as 3-methyl-5,6,7,8- hexahydrothieno [2,3-b] quinoline-4-amine (2),methyl 4-amino-3,6-dimethyl thieno [2,3-b] pyridine-5-carboxylate (3), 5-methylthieno [2,3-d] pyrimidine-4-amine (4) and 5-methyl-3,4-dihydrothieno [2,3-d] pyrimidine-4-one (5) were synthesized from 4-methyl-2-aminothiophene-3-carbonitrile. All the synthesized compounds were characterized on the basis of their IR, 1H NMR and mass spectral data and screened for their antimicrobial activity.
