Thermal migration of an ethynyl group from one benzene ring to another by reversible vinylidene C-H insertion
Scott, Lawrence T.,Necula, Atena
, p. 1877 - 1880 (2007/10/03)
Evidence is presented for the high temperature opening of a 5-membered ring by extrusion of a carbene (the reverse of a C-H bond insertion), which results in the net thermal migration of an ethynyl group from one benzene ring to another.
Reductive double alkylation of anthracene with lithium bromoacetate; synthesis of cyclopentaceanthrylene, a novel dicyclopenta-fused hydrocarbon
Boere, Ben B.,Mulder, Patrick P. J.,Cornelisse, Jan,Lugtenburg, Johan
, p. 463 - 466 (2007/10/02)
The synthesis and characterization of cyclopentaceanthrylene, a novel dicyclopenta-fused polycyclic hydrocarbon, are described. The key step is the reductive double alkylation of anthracene by lithium bromoacetate in liquid ammonia giving cis-9,10-dihydroanthracene-9,10-diacetic acid in good yield.Lithium bromoacetate is a better alkylating agent than the sodium iodoacetate formerly used.
