The first ever tandem one-pot synthetic protocol for the synthesis of thiazoles/selenazoles from alkynes via the formation of 2,2-dibromo-1- phenylethanone is reported. The reaction is catalyzed by β-cyclodextrin in aqueous medium and resulted in good yields.

A straightforward and effective procedure for the solution phase preparation of a 2-aminothiazole combinatorial library is described. Reaction, work-up and isolation of the title compounds as free bases was accomplished in a fully automated fashion using the Chemspeed ASW 2000 automated synthesizer. The compounds were obtained in good yields and excellent purities without any further purification procedure. 2011 Bentham Science Publishers Ltd.
