The solid complexes of lanthanide metal ions with a few derivatives of thioschiff bases have been isolated and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, 1NMR and thermal analysis.The results indicate the formation of 1:2 (M:L) complexes with the general formula (ML2*H2O*X) 2H2O where M = trivalent Y, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Gd, Dy, Ho, Er and Yb; HL (or H2L) = thioschiff base and X = ClO4- or Cl- ion.Coordination numbers 6 and 8 are proposed for the lanthanides in these complexes.
