Perfluoroalkylations and perfluorooxaalkylations. Part 2. Copper-mediated cross-coupling of secondary perfluorooxaalkyl iodides and aryl halides

The first successful application of the copper-mediated cross-coupling reaction using secondary perfluorooxaalkyl iodides and iodoaromatic substrates is described.The yields of the cross-coupled products are optimized by careful choice and control of the experimental conditions.The by-products formed are identified and their probable mode of formation is discussed.

SYNTHESIS OF AROMATIC COMPOUNDS CONTAINING PERFLUOROOXA-ALKYL GROUPS

Perfluoro-oxa-alkanoyl peroxides 2, n= 0, 1, 2> smoothly reacted with thiophene and furan under mild conditions to afford 2-perfluoro-oxa-alkylthiophenes and furans in good yields.Perfluoro-oxa-alkylations of benzene and pyrrole were also found to proceed by the use of these peroxides.Furthermore, these peroxides were found to be applied to direct aromatic perfluoro-oxa-alkylations of polystyrene.
