General Description
Lead(II) oxide, also known as lead monoxide, is a chemical compound with the formula PbO. It is a yellowish or reddish crystalline solid that is insoluble in water. Lead(II) oxide is commonly used as a pigment in paints, ceramic glazes, and glass. It is also used in the manufacturing of lead-acid batteries and as a radiation shield in some nuclear reactors. However, lead(II) oxide is highly toxic and exposure to it can cause serious health problems, particularly to the nervous system, kidneys, and reproductive system.
