General Description

Lead(II) oxide, also known as lead monoxide, is a chemical compound with the formula PbO. It is a yellowish or reddish crystalline solid that is insoluble in water. Lead(II) oxide is commonly used as a pigment in paints, ceramic glazes, and glass. It is also used in the manufacturing of lead-acid batteries and as a radiation shield in some nuclear reactors. However, lead(II) oxide is highly toxic and exposure to it can cause serious health problems, particularly to the nervous system, kidneys, and reproductive system. Due to its toxicity, the use of lead(II) oxide is being phased out in many applications and replaced with safer alternatives.
