Twofold lithiation of dibenzothiophene with n-butyllithium and N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethylenediamine (TMEDA) in boiling n-heptane followed by reaction with chlorodiphenylphosphine (Ph2PCl) yielded the title compounds 2 (colourless) and 3 (yellow). Both phosphines were characterised by single crystal X-ray structure analysis and 13C,1H shift correlated 2D NMR spectroscopy, based on which our previous assignment of the yellow compound to structure 2 has to be revised.

Herein, we report a feasible molecular design of the binuclear clusters featuring the n-p-n heterojunction of biligand-sandwiched inorganic units, which can be used as the effective charge trapper in ambipolar transistor memories with the large memory windows and the energy-saving operation. We found that the hole confinement on the p-type inorganic units is enhanced by spatial electronic anisotropy provided by the peripheral n-type organic phosphine ligands. The steric hindrance of the coordination sites, the insulating effect of the carbon-phosphorous single bonds and the parallel dual-ligand coordination mode jointly elongate the interunit distances to nanometer scale and restrain the intramolecular electronic communications, leading to the tunable and reliable charge trapping. Our results show that the spatial effect is crucial to further amplifying the electronic differences between organic and inorganic units for function enhancement.

Two dibenzothiophene (DBT)-based phosphine oxide hosts, named 4-diphenylphosphoryl dibenzothiophene (DBTSPO) and 4,6-bis(diphenylphosphoryl) dibenzothiophene (DBTDPO), were prepared by short-axis substitution with the aim to selectively adjust electrical

Twofold lithiathion of dibenzofuran (6) and dibenzothiophene (12) with n-butyllithium/ N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethylenediamine (TMEDA) in n-hexane or n-heptane followed by the reaction with chlorodiphenylphosphine yielded the title compounds 4 and 5, respectively. The monophosphines 4-(diphenylphosphino)dibenzofuran (11) and 4-(diphenylphosphino)dibenzothiophene (15) were obtained analogously via the monolithium compounds 9 and 14 of the heteroarenes. In the case of dibenzofuran (6), it was shown that mono- and dilithiation is controlled by temperature.Key Words: Phoshine ligands/ Dibenzofuran/ Dibenzothiophene/ Lithium compounds/ Multiple lithiation
