Usage

General Description

Methyl purple, also known as crystal violet, is a triarylmethane dye that is commonly used as a pH indicator in science labs. It exists in the form of a dark green crystalline powder and is soluble in water, alcohol, and chloroform. Methyl purple changes color in response to changes in pH, turning from yellow in acidic solutions to purple in basic solutions. It is commonly used in microbiology and biochemistry for staining bacteria and other microorganisms, as well as in medical diagnostics and histology.
