General Description

Lead carbonate is a chemical compound with the formula PbCO3. It is a white solid with a density of 6.582 g/cm3 and a melting point of 315 °C. Lead carbonate is insoluble in water and is primarily used in the production of lead-based pigments, specifically white lead, which has been historically used in paints due to its brightness and opacity. However, due to its toxic nature, lead carbonate is now rarely used in consumer products and has been largely replaced by safer alternatives. When ingested or inhaled, lead carbonate can lead to serious health effects including neurological damage, developmental delays, and kidney damage. As a result, strict regulations have been put in place to limit exposure to lead carbonate and other lead-containing compounds.
