Triple-decker complexes with mixed d/f-block metals that have a purely inorganic middle deck were unknown. A mixed-metal iron-samarium complex is presented with a cyclo-P5 polyphosphide between the metal centers (see picture; Sm large black, C small black, Fe blue, N green, O red, P pink). This compound can be obtained as either a monomer or a dimer depending on the reaction conditions.
