The trans- (3) und cis- (4) isomers of 1-(4-methoxyphenyl)-3-phenoxy-4-methylthio-4-methoxyimino-2-acetidinone have been synthesized. The structure of 3 has been investigated by X-ray diffraction.The compound crystallizes in a monoclinic system, space group P21/a, Z=4, a=7.377(2), b=23.790(3), c=10.724(2) A, β=95.01(2) deg.The structure was solved by direct methods and refined by a full matrix, least-squares procedure to R=0.0435, Rw=0.0597, ω=1.92/.The solid-state structure was compared with the structure found from NMR studies in solution.
