N-Cyanolactam 2-imines 1 are versatile N-C-N-C building blocks for the synthesis of partially saturated bicyclic compounds.Reactions with acidic methyl halides, hydroxylamine O-sulfonic acid, and phenyl isocyanate afford bicyclic imidazole (4), 1,2,4-triazole (6), and 1,3,5-triazine (8) derivatives, respectively.
